BACKROOMS: APPREHENSION is an online multiplayer horror game built around a tense split between human survivors and a disguised threat. Playing as a scientist, you must scavenge for supplies and weapons while cooperating with teammates to uncover the hostile shapeshifter or escape. The danger is social as well as physical: a mistaken act of trust can leave the group exposed.
The opposing role casts a player as the Skin Stealer, whose aim is to eliminate or infect the humans before they identify the monster or get away. Direct attacks are not the only approach; the creature can assimilate victims, blend in, and encourage suspicion among the team. Dynamic proximity voice chat supports that uneasy exchange, while the asymmetric setup gives the two sides sharply different objectives and tactics.
With support for up to 12 players, the game frames its horror around interaction among a group rather than a solitary journey through a setting. Its advertised replayability likewise rests on player interactions, not just atmosphere.
