Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout DX centers on Ryza, an ordinary girl whose encounter with alchemy sets her and her friends on an adventure to uncover the secrets of their island home. The coming-of-age premise gives its role-playing and adventure framework a personal focus: exploration is tied to the characters’ lives on the island, not just to a distant quest.
The DX edition adds three playable characters, Agatha, Kilo, and Romy, alongside new story material. One side story follows Bos into the Underworld, where he meets Kilo before reuniting with Ryza; another takes place between the events of Ryza 1 and Ryza 2, with Ryza teaching local children and searching for them after they slip away. Custom Combat mode also lets players select monsters, set their levels, and adjust battle speed and behavior, offering a configurable way to shape encounters.
This is a single-player game, so its island exploration, character stories, and adjustable combat are designed as an individual adventure rather than a shared session. The DX package also includes additional content from the original game, such as photo mode, outfits, and maps, along with improvements to graphics and interface usability.
