Assassin's Creed 2 follows Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a young Italian noble whose family is betrayed, sending him toward vengeance and the ways of the assassins. Set amid the political rivalries and cultural flourishing of 15th-century Italy, the story moves through cities including Florence and Venice. Its backdrop balances celebrated art and architecture with corruption, greed and murder, giving Ezio’s personal pursuit a broader setting of competing families and conspiracies.
The game combines open-ended missions with free-running, letting players choose when and how to approach their objectives. Ezio can swim and fly, while the crowds offer opportunities to blend in and interact with characters, though those encounters can bring unexpected consequences. Combat and stealth draw on new weapons, the ability to disarm enemies and use their weapons, and paired hidden blades for assassinations. These options make movement, concealment and direct confrontation part of the same adventure.
Leonardo da Vinci becomes Ezio’s ally as he explores the canals of Venice and takes on powerful families in Florence. Rather than confining the story to a single city or a fixed sequence of mission approaches, the design emphasizes travel through distinct urban settings and player choice in carrying out missions. The result is an action-adventure centered on one protagonist’s transformation into a master assassin, set against a Renaissance world where beauty and political violence coexist. Online features, including multiplayer and co-op, are no longer supported.
