Ascension casts you as a young disciple sent through a portal after your sect faces ruin. Now its leader, you must guide its recovery in a strange world of unfamiliar cities, unexplored lands and formidable beasts. The premise combines rebuilding a threatened community with the personal ambition to pursue immortality.
The strategy centers on growing the sect and directing its cultivators. Establish a lineage, study the natural order, and craft artifacts; recruit capable disciples, assign the strongest to senior posts, and decide how closely to guide them. Expansion brings both opportunities and dangers, with resources attracting rival sects, hostile factions, beasts and demons. Diplomacy and force are alternative responses to those threats.
Beyond managing the sect, Ascension frames cultivation as a choice of values and destination. You can devote yourself to meditation and study, or cultivate alongside friends in pursuit of ascension together. Its larger conflicts ask whether to follow righteousness, tyranny or evil, and whether to obey heaven or rebel against it. Those decisions give the rebuilding effort a moral dimension as well as a strategic one, while the game’s 4X structure emphasizes exploration, expansion and survival.
