Army of Tentacles: (Not) A Cthulhu Dating Sim recasts the story of Shadow Over Innsmouth as a quirky coming-of-age adventure about a young protagonist preparing to destroy a coastal town. Dagon sets the task: bring down Innsmouth, but first assemble a force capable of the invasion. That deliberately absurd premise gives the game its particular blend of Lovecraftian horror and comic role-playing.
Preparation is shaped by time management. Some areas are available only at particular times, and the schedule can leave the player unable to train every recruit before the final assault. The party can include Deep Ones and Night Gaunts, while hidden squads and companions add to its ranks. Encounters also put conversation at the center of combat, making verbal exchanges a defining part of the adventure rather than a conventional clash of weapons.
The game combines four central hub areas with changing 2D art that can shift according to location, conversation, or activity. Its silent protagonist contrasts with a voiced cast of more than sixty characters, and choices lead to multiple endings.
