Ark Nova asks players to shape a modern, scientifically managed zoo while pursuing conservation work around the world. Building enclosures and accommodating animals contribute to that larger plan, while specialists and distinctive buildings can help develop the institution. The aim is not simply to assemble an appealing collection: the game also ties zoo appeal and scientific reputation to conservation points.
Its card system gives the strategy its defining texture. The game features 255 cards representing animals, specialists, unique enclosures and conservation projects, each with its own ability. Players manage five action cards, and an action’s strength depends on the slot its card occupies. The available actions cover building facilities, adding animals, acquiring zoo cards, sending association workers to tasks, and playing sponsor cards or raising money. That shifting action strength makes the order and timing of plans central to the design.
Ark Nova offers solo play against AI, online play, and couch play through Pass and Play, alongside strategic challenges. Its digital adaptation carries forward a board-game structure built around long-term zoo planning, card abilities and conservation goals.
