Arcanists brings competitive and casual play together in a turn-based artillery game where players trade moves under a race against the clock. The goal is straightforward: reduce opponents to zero hitpoints and be the last player or team standing. Its appeal comes from balancing a spell choice against the changing hazards of the battlefield, rather than relying on a single fixed attack.
Spell selection gives each battle a personal tactical angle. The game offers 15 themed spellbooks, each with 12 spells, but limits a player’s book to 16 spells; choosing every spell in one book also unlocks a Familiar effect with a special ability or extra spells. Sixteen arenas add another pressure point: most have an Armageddon effect that begins after a 10-turn countdown and gradually destroys terrain. Character creation, with more than 100,000 costume combinations, and achievements that unlock awards add customization and longer-term goals beyond a single match.
The play format ranges from unranked casual matches to ranked battles, with free-for-all and team play available. Random Spells mode hands spell selection over to the game, while saved replays can be watched on demand and shared. The store description supports battles of up to 24 players online, so Arcanists’ player-count context is that of a multiplayer game with both large lobbies and smaller team or competitive formats, not a single-player campaign.
