Arcane Trigger casts its roguelite action around a magical rift and the waves of shadowspawn threatening your home. You wield an Arcane Rifle, but shooting is only part of the fight: enemies release energy when defeated, and that energy becomes material for crafting the ammunition you will use next. The result is a wave-based defense game whose defining decisions happen between attacks, as you shape a loadout for the challenges ahead.
Its ammunition system invites experimentation. The game offers more than 220 bullet types with elemental attributes; bullets can be rearranged in the Arcane Magazine to create effects that reinforce or chain into one another. Three identical bullets can also be fused into a stronger version. At the end of each wave, magical Seals let you modify bullets and abilities, while Ancient Runes provide permanent upgrades. Those layers make each run a process of assembling and refining a build, rather than simply choosing a weapon and firing it.
Three playable characters bring distinct mechanics, and eight Magic Carpets offer different gameplay styles. Runs move through 15 escalating waves, with Omens, Megastructures, and Dimension Events adding further encounters; multiple difficulty levels are available. Its pixel-art presentation frames a combat loop built around converting each wave’s spoils into the next set of possibilities.
