Arcadegeddon casts players as defenders of Gilly’s neighborhood arcade after the Fun Fun Co. corporation retaliates against his new game with a cyberattack. The premise gives its shooter action a playful underdog frame: the threat is not only to the game itself, but also to the last local arcade. The town’s gangs add another layer to that setting, offering challenges that connect play to the arcade’s wider community.
At its core, this is a co-op roguelite shooter for up to four players. Runs take the group through multiple biomes, where they can fight varied enemies and bosses, hunt for hidden chests, and break up combat with mini games. The game also leaves room for different pacing, letting players move quickly into action or take a slower approach. Those activities make the arcade setting more than a backdrop, mixing combat, exploration and competition.
Its leaderboard competition and challenges from local gangs complement the cooperative shooting, giving the arcade’s visitors reasons to test themselves as well as resist the corporate attack.
