Anomaly: Warzone Earth casts players as defenders of a near-future Earth under alien attack, but flips the familiar tower-defense setup: the enemy has built enormous turrets in major cities, and your armor squad must push through them. The campaign sends the squad through places including Baghdad and Tokyo, framing each route as a tactical assault against the invaders.
Planning happens on the move. You choose a route and select which units to deploy, while gathering resources lets you buy units and upgrade the squad during a battle. You also directly control the Commander, whose special abilities support the squad in fast-paced tactical encounters. That mix of route planning, squad management and hands-on intervention is the game’s defining design, rather than simply placing defenses and waiting for attackers.
Alongside its story campaign, Anomaly: Warzone Earth includes two Squad Assault Modes. The setting supplies the stakes, while the reversed formula gives the player the role of the attacker working to break through alien defenses.
