Anode Heart: Layer Null is a side-game spinoff that shifts the series’ focus to card battles and deckbuilding. You play as Blank, a newcomer to the Duel Server, an in-between Layer where disputes are settled through card games. Climbing its ranks brings Blank into contact with the Shadowed, a mysterious organization tied to the game’s new plot. Familiar characters and references return, but knowledge of the first Anode Heart is not required.
The expanded card system combines collecting and deck construction with battles against card bosses and Tama. Its tournament-style ranking gives matches a competitive frame, while local PvP and direct-connection PvP let players face one another. The game also includes Tama monster DNA collection, adding a separate collection strand to its card-focused progression. Its isometric Game Boy and PSX-inspired look distinguishes this new Layer from a conventional card-table presentation.
The core premise still centers on Blank’s climb through the Server Ranks, with the card game serving as both the main combat system and the setting’s defining social contest. As the second game in the Anode Heart universe, it introduces a new cast and plot while functioning as a bridge to the sequel.
