ANNO: Mutationem casts Ann Flores as a combat-trained lone wolf searching for her missing brother in a neon-soaked cyberpunk metropolis. Her investigation draws in her hacker partner Ayane and a wider cast of strange groups, creatures and corporate powers. The setting also makes room for detours: Ann can talk with a cyborg corgi, work a bartender shift or pursue criminals while exploring places from Noctis Town to an offshore cargo ship and vast underground structures.
The game’s defining shift is between two forms of play: 2D action and platforming, then 3D exploration, where Ann can interact with the world and its inhabitants. Combat gives her a broad toolkit, including swords, guns, grenades, combos and ground attacks, for facing enemy hordes and large bosses. Between encounters, players can collect, purchase or craft items, improve Ann’s stats, skills and equipment, and modify weapons with chips.
Its moment-to-moment appeal rests on moving between exploration and forceful combat, with a personal mystery anchoring the journey through its layered city.
