Airborne Empire combines open-world role-playing with city building, setting the player’s settlement on a flying platform that must be kept aloft. Rather than managing a city on fixed ground, players balance lift, balance, and propulsion while shaping infrastructure around the needs of its people. That unusual engineering task gives the building side a clear purpose: the city must function as a home and remain airborne.
Exploration ties expansion to a wider world of biomes, settlements, characters, and quests. Players can trade, uncover relics and technologies, and help liberate towns, while pirate threats create a separate reason to develop defenses. Defensive structures and weapons such as Freeze Cannons and Tesla Cannons support attacks on pirates and their outposts. Research unlocks additional lift, propulsion, morale, and combat options, linking discoveries to both city development and protection.
The game offers distinct approaches through Survival, Pacifist, Hard, and Creative modes: these emphasize escalating pirate attacks, exploration and building without combat, greater difficulty, or unrestricted construction.
