Age of Wonders: Planetfall begins after the collapse of a galactic empire, asking players to shape a future for their people among the remnants of its civilization. Its six factions include the militant Vanguard, dinosaur-riding Amazons, and cyborg-zombie Assembly, each bringing a different identity to the struggle. Exploration has a narrative purpose, too: missions send factions across planetary ruins to meet survivors and uncover the history of the shattered society.
The game pairs empire management with tactical, turn-based battles. Players develop colonies through technology and social choices, while customizable units and destructible environments make combat more than a contest of raw military strength. Conquest is not the sole route to victory: diplomacy and doomsday technologies offer alternatives, giving strategic decisions both local consequences on the battlefield and broader implications for a colony’s future.
Planetfall supports a single-player story campaign, randomly generated maps, skirmishes, and multiplayer, including online, hotseat, and asynchronous play. Its blend of exploration, empire building, and turn-based conflict is the through-line connecting those modes.
