Age of History 2: Definitive Edition is a grand strategy wargame built around shaping the course of human history, from the dawn of civilization to the distant future. Players lead a civilization through a campaign, using military tactics and diplomacy to pursue world unification or conquest. Its historical grand campaign ranges from major empires to small tribes, placing different powers on a detailed map marked with historical borders.
Diplomacy reaches beyond alliances and declarations of war: actions include enforcing peace, intervening in conflicts, imposing sanctions, requesting loans and asking to become a vassal. The edition also adds wartime capitulation, faster army recruitment and movement, and the option to direct AI armies. Mass province actions let players invest, build or assimilate across multiple provinces with a single action, while revolutions and civil wars offer further challenges to rule.
The expanded map contains 13,892 provinces, and the game adds religions, civilizations, scenarios, government types and wonders alongside atomic weapons. Its design pairs a broad historical canvas with hands-on customization: built-in editors cover scenarios, civilizations, flags, maps and provinces, while Steam Workshop support extends its modding tools. Enhanced graphics, clearer province borders, map-based province names and a simplified, responsive interface round out this updated take on the series’ grand-strategy formula.
