Aeon Command casts its strategy around a conflict among three factions in the Aeon Nebula. Rather than framing the war as a series of isolated battles, it uses a tug-of-war structure: each side seeks dominance while the player commands a mother ship. The Alliance, Cyborgs and Exile each have distinct ships and abilities, giving the faction choice a role in shaping the campaign.
At the center of play is a cycle of gathering resources, producing ships and fighting the opposing mother ship. Progress through the single-player campaign unlocks upgrades and abilities, with a persistent upgrade system letting players improve their fleet over time. The campaign contains 24 missions, divided evenly across the three faction campaigns, so its strategic progression is tied to taking each side through its own set of missions.
For shorter or more self-contained play, Aeon Command also offers skirmishes in Classic, Close Quarters and Resources formats, with three difficulty settings. Multiplayer is no longer available because its server was taken offline permanently; the campaign and skirmish modes remain playable.
