A Timely Intervention builds its story around a question of time and consequence: would you risk changing the past if doing so could alter everything you know? In the first part of the game, the narrative follows two separate parties, moving between their hopes and goals before they meet and join forces. That alternating perspective gives the role-playing adventure a distinctive frame, centering the story on what the characters’ choices might bring.
Combat and party development add tactical choices. The game features ten characters, with five in the active party, and many skills level up through use. Players can select one of four difficulty settings, from Easy to Legendary, and choose visible or invisible enemies; when enemies are invisible, the encounter rate can be varied from the menu. Mouse use can be enabled or disabled, and movement works with either mouse or keyboard.
Exploration extends beyond the central storyline through side quests and secret rooms. The listed single-player format places the emphasis on one player’s journey through the shifting perspectives, party decisions, and adjustable encounters, rather than on a shared session. Taken together, skill growth through use, selectable difficulty, and control over enemy visibility give the game’s narrative-focused RPG design several ways to shape an individual playthrough, without changing its central premise of choices and uncertain consequences.
