A Sceptic’s Guide to Magic brings forensic investigator Lester Chapman into a murder case that unsettles his faith in a purely scientific view of the world. The trail leads to Fianna and Val, teenage witches seeking answers after their friend is killed in a ritual murder. Their uneasy partnership gives the story its central tension: a sceptic must confront forces that his investigative experience alone cannot explain.
Play unfolds as a point-and-click adventure, combining traditional investigation and puzzle-solving with the study and use of magic. Lester learns spellcraft from an obscure tome, gathers ingredients and other items, then uses them to make potions and cast spells. The game also lets players take control of Fianna, adding a second playable perspective to its investigation. Its setting draws on English magic and folklore alongside ancient Greek mythology, while its locations are based across Birmingham, including real-life places.
The game is structured into chapters and offers several possible endings, with a hidden bonus chapter featuring another playable character. The blend of case-solving, puzzles and resource gathering for spells gives this mystery a distinctive point-and-click identity.
