A Hat in Time follows Hat Kid, a small space-travelling girl whose spaceship loses its fuel, the Time Pieces, across a nearby planet. Finding them frames an adventure through distinctive settings and encounters, from the Mafia of Cooks to the shadows of Subcon Forest. Its playful premise sends a young explorer into a world packed with unusual characters and varied situations.
Traversal gives that journey its physical texture: Hat Kid can jump, climb walls, and swing over gaps while exploring five large worlds. Magical yarn collected along the way can be stitched into hats with different abilities. A witch hat lets her cook explosive concoctions, while a wooden ghost mask offers a way to peek into other dimensions; badges found, sold, or traded can strengthen hats. Missions shift between tasks, including investigating a train murder by finding clues and questioning locals, taking part in a parade, and sneaking through a movie studio.
The game’s listed formats include single-player as well as multiplayer and co-op, with shared or split-screen co-op among the options. Steam Workshop support and an included level editor add a creation-focused dimension to the platforming adventure.
