Sons of the Forest begins with a search for a missing billionaire, placing the player on a remote island overrun by cannibals. Its open-world survival horror setup combines exploration with a basic pressure: find ways to endure in a dangerous place. Rather than following orders from non-player characters or accepting assigned missions, players choose where to go and how to approach survival.
That freedom extends to hands-on building and crafting. Players can break sticks to make fires, cut windows and floors with an axe, and decide whether to build a small cabin or a larger seaside compound. The island’s seasons shape resource gathering: salmon can be caught in streams during spring and summer, while food must be collected and stored for winter, when supplies grow scarce. Mutated creatures make those preparations matter, with weapons such as pistols, axes and stun batons available for defense.
The game supports both solo play and co-op, where friends can share items, build defenses together and explore above or below ground.
