Left 4 Dead 2 is a cooperative action-horror shooter set amid a zombie apocalypse. Players take the role of one of four survivors and fight through five campaigns across the Deep South, with locations ranging from Savannah to New Orleans.
The combat mixes firearms with close-range options such as chainsaws, axes, and frying pans. Players face Special Infected, while the Versus mode also lets them play as those dangerous enemies. Alongside cooperative play, the game offers Versus and Survival modes, giving groups different ways to approach its infected-filled encounters.
A key variation comes from AI Director 2.0, which can alter weather and routes, as well as adjust enemy populations, effects, and sounds in response to performance. That means the campaign format is designed to change between plays, while its multiplayer modes support more than one kind of session.
